from Dangermaker's prolific frontman, Adam Brookes, may come as a surprise to fans of his previous work. Born in Los Angeles, CA, Brookes began seriously writing and recording music in San Francisco forming indie pop band Dangermaker after several short-lived projects. Music quickly went from pastime to obsession as he dealt with the sudden death of his father during the first week of tracking their debut album, eventually emerging with a euphoric sound that defines Dangermaker's releases on Breakup Records.
His new solo work including recent single Different Times brings a more minimal, refined electro feel than we’ve heard from the songwriter before, while still nodding to his rock & pop DNA. Initial experiments with electronic production recently led to commissioned compositions for The North Face and Brookes realized that certain life-long musical influences had previously been neglected. Rather than force-fit those ideas into existing boxes, his new project is left free to land where it may, often fusing electronic and hip-hop influences just as much as rock, pop, or R&B.
The result is transformative, featuring a rotating cast of dedicated SF Bay Area live musicians including Dan Caporale on drums (Strange Cities), Sabrina Simonton on synths (Treasvre, Ponyskull), and collaborations with SF Bay Area MCs Enon Gaines (Unlikely Heroes), Najee Amaranth (Oakland Mind) & Compa Cut. Brookes also recently produced a remix of New Spell's Like Water as well as contributed to a pair of singles with Everything but the Everything. He has appeared at Bottlerock Napa, Live 105’s BFD, and Noise Pop Music Festivals among others like SXSW & CMJ nationally, and his songs heard on radio, television & film, ahead of his upcoming solo LP release.
